Old Shop

1936

  • William and Bertha Schumacher founded Wm. Schumacher & Sons
  • William built Schumacher Machine Shop in Denver, IA
1937-1962
  • Concentrated on freight elevators, lifting platforms, and dumbwaiters
1958
  • William Schumacher retired
  • Elmer and Earl Schumacher continued business; Elmer assumed presidency
1962
  • Began designing and manufacturing passenger elevators
1966
  • Elmer Schumacher retired
  • Marvin Schumacher assumed presidency
Early 1970s
  • Began building cabs, platforms, and power units
1981
  • Started building microprocessor controllers
1986
  • Bought Polly Elevator Company (Sioux City, IA)
  • Bought Bender Ross (Omaha, NE)
  • Began manufacturing SPPE/manlifts
Early 1990s
  • Began manufacturing LULA & Residential elevators
1992
  • Bought Capital Elevator (Madison, WI)
2000
  • Implemented SAP
  • Moved to a new plant and office facility in Denver, IA
2009
  • Sales & Service office opened in Eagan, MN
2013
  • Became the North American Distributor for Bucher Hydraulics elevator products
